A man has been attacked and seriously injured by an elephant he was trying to chase away from a private camp in the Timbavati Game Reserve. (Where I went for my retreat.)

Sounds like he is lucky to be alive. If the man had been gored in anything but his leg, he would not be here today. I assume that the correct action would have been to let the elephant go on its way rather than pursuing it further correct?

Absolutely correct. One can make a loud noise from a distance to try and distract the animal – but only when you at a safe range and in a safe place.

I hope the man recovers. A hard lesson to remember to always respect animals, especially large ones.

The guy was also lucky that the elephant didn’t hit a femoral artery. Suppose he won’t be taking on an elephant again any time soon!
